Participants from the Kevin Heinze Grow ‘Grow on the Go’ and ‘Grow Glen Eira’ programs were excited to work with the Dylan Alcott Foundation, Semken Landscaping and Vivid designs to create an accessible garden for people with disabilities at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show. The fully accessible garden titled ‘Tramlines’ incorporated plants and shrubs from the Kevin Heinze Grow Nursery and Warners Nurseries. The wonderful team at Semken landscaping led the building process with construction support from the Grow Glen Eira team. The experience allowed our team to gain hands on experience in a professional gardening setting. Mason and George both assisted in the construction, alongside Patrick who oversaw their tasks. Mason explained ‘the logic behind setting up the garden bed was so that your eye is drawn up, so the tall plants are in the middle and back of the garden bed with lower plants at the front. The team chose to put lower draping plants around the edges of the garden to hang over and cover up the edges.’ The fully accessible garden ‘Tramlines’ won a Silver Show Garden medal.
