Adult gardening program
For all ages and stages of human development, there are clear and important benefits to connecting with nature. For older adults however, the benefits of social and therapeutic horticulture can be even more pronounced.
The ReGROW program specifically targets adults who are suffering from cognitive impairment or declining mental health as a result of:
- dementia
- acquired brain injury (ABI)
- stroke
- social isolation and loneliness
Therapeutic interventions are tailored to meet participants’ unique needs.
For example, those with dementia-related memory impairments may benefit from intensive nature therapy sensory activities involving sight, smell, touch etc whereas those who seek reassurance through repetition and predictability will be supported through a program which follows a familiar pattern each week.
Participants will experience the positive health and social benefits of gardening & nature-based craft activities whilst engaging in purposeful time spent outdoors.
Our ReGROW program is facilitated by Occupational Therapists and Social Workers and is designed to cater for small groups attending from aged-care facilities or individuals from the wider community who are interested in connecting with others.
Sessions are usually 2 hours in duration and held on a regular day each week for an 8-10 week period. Staff or carers are encouraged to support participants as required.
ReGROW is offered at our Doncaster site only.
