This is a 1-day introduction to Therapeutic Horticulture in a community organisation setting including key elements of practice that promote therapeutic benefits of gardening for participants.

WHAT WE WILL WE COVER

The day will feature key topics such as Therapeutic Horticulture, Kevin Heinze GROW’s model of therapeutic horticulture practice, an overview of different programs and structure, key outcomes for disabled participants and hands-on practice facilitating an accessible therapeutic horticulture activity.

This workshop is for anyone starting, developing or expanding on their skills and knowledge relating to Therapeutic Horticulture practice.

YOUR FACILITATORS

Patrick Wain

Patrick is an experienced horticulturalist working towards a vision of health and wellbeing through connection to nature and community. He is passionate about the right of disabled people, and all people, to have access to the therapeutic benefits of gardening and nature.

Rachel Fletcher

Rachel is a Speech Pathologist and member of Speech Pathology Australia with five years clinical experience. Rachel has specialities and passionate interests in supporting complex communication needs in neurodevelopmental and acquired neurodivergence including but not limited to Autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Intellectual Disability (ID), Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), Parkinson’s Disease and Dementia.  

With a strong foundation in Evidence Based Practice (EBP) and a commitment to holistic care, Rachel believes that effective communication is a two-way street, and is not solely the responsibility of the individual with a communication difference to adapt. With a passion for education and upskilling, Rachel not only empowers individuals but also supports caregivers, families, and support networks, emphasizing understanding, respect, and collaboration, ensuring that everyone involved feels equipped to facilitate meaningful communication in an environment where every voice is heard and valued.

Rachel brings together her expertise providing communication support as a Speech Therapist with the benefits of Therapeutic Horticulture.
