GROW Glen Eira is an exciting and innovative All Abilities Horticulture Training program for young people with a disability seeking open employment in horticulture that is run by Kevin Heinze Grow in partnership with Glen Eira City Council.
Each year, six participants undertake a customised hands-on horticulture training program. Under the guidance of the GROW Glen Eira Coordinator, participants will complete paid work placements through Glen Eira City Council’s Park Services in Caulfield South, KHG’s nurseries in Doncaster and Coburg or Rippon Lea Estate gardens in Elsternwick.
James is one of the Grow Glen Eira program participants. James is based at Rippon Lea Estate gardens in Elsternwick and has been part of the program since March 2021. James’ daily tasks include mowing, trimming hedges, weeding and keeping the gardens looking great. James’ favourite part of being in the program is working alongside and chatting to everyone who works at Ripponlea and planting new plants in the gardens.
